Abstract:
The nucleus of this bibliography was created as part of a comparative criminological research project on longitudinal studies of delinquency and crime, particularly on birth cohort studies. We updated and augmented the content considerably over the years until the end of the year 2003. The bibliography is basically international in its scope and orientation. Most of the studies on the subject matter, however, have been performed in the United States. The bulk of studies in other leading countries tends to be published in English language, too. Therefore this bibliography is mainly concentrated on English texts. German language publications come second, other languages are much more selectively represented. The bibliography is not exhaustive, but – within its scope – rather comprehensive up to the mid 90ies of the 20th century. Later developments, like the discussion on the desistence from criminal careers, are also covered, but not with the aim of being comprehensive. One of the main reasons is simply that the state of affairs is dealt with in easily accessible publications, like John Laub and Robert Sampson marvellous book on the long term development former juvenile offenders (2003).
